Thirty Things before Thirty Years

Rachel showed me a lady (http://www.joythebaker.com/blog/2011/03/thirty-things-before-thirty-years/) who had two months until her 30th birthday and so she created this challenge for herself.

I want to complete 30 things before I turn 30. I’ve got a list working, but I’m a little stumped. That’s where you come in. Help me fill this list. I’m counting on you… I got a lot of work to do!

Thirty Things before Thirty Years

Eat 1 giant birthday hot dog with sauerkraut, spicy mustard, and beer.

Send flowers to 2 friends.

Buy 3 strangers their morning coffee.

Take 4 new people to church on Sunday.

Make 5 new friends.

Mail 6 hand-written letters.

Compliment 7 strangers.

Leave 8 lucky quarters on the ground.

Send 9 of my favorite books to 9 of my favorite people.

10? 11?”

The list goes on, but it is incomplete.

I like challenges…. So, why not make my own Thirty Things before Thirty Years list. In 2014, I will be 30 year old. That gives me three years to do these thirty things. I would like them to be creative, but do-able things. I think I would also like them to be things to benefit others. I think I am going to take the month of may to try and create my Thirty Things before Thirty Years list…. Send me any suggestions.

I will post my list on this blog and see how much of it I can get done this year. I will need to accomplish at least 10 to be on track for 2014.

Rocky Mountain High

As I was walking in the Rockies, I found that this songs applied to me... since it was my 27th birthday and all... so here are the lyrics and some pictures.

He was born in the summer of his 27th year
Comin' home to a place he'd never been before
He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again
You might say he found a key for every door

When he first came to the mountains his life was far away
On the road and hangin' by a song
But the string's already broken and he doesn't really care
It keeps changin' fast and it don't last for long

But the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
The shadow from the starlight is softer than a lullabye
Rocky mountain high

He climbed cathedral mountains, he saw silver clouds below
He saw everything as far as you can see
And they say that he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun
And he lost a friend but kept his memory

Now he walks in quiet solitude the forest and the streams
Seeking grace in every step he takes
His sight has turned inside himself to try and understand
The serenity of a clear blue mountain lake

And the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
You can talk to God and listen to the casual reply
Rocky mountain high

Now his life is full of wonder but his heart still knows some fear
Of a simple thing he cannot comprehend
Why they try to tear the mountains down to bring in a couple more
More people, more scars upon the land

And the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
I know he'd be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly
Rocky mountain high

It's Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
Friends around the campfire and everybody's high
Rocky mountain high

To new beginnings

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR ME,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

Yes, as you can tell- today is my 27th birthday. Today, I am dedicating myself to myself. I am awakening to new adventures and beautiful things yet to be seen. I have declared this year my year of fitness, health, and well being. My focus will be on creating a better me in my mind, body, and spirit. I am keeping this blog as a record for myself, but also for anyone who might come upon it.

Today, I find myself in Boulder, Colorado. I am about to head up to Rocky Mountain National Park. This will be my first time in the Rockies. Should be fun....
